What is the Diagnostic Imaging Accreditation Scheme (DIAS)?

The Diagnostic Imaging Accreditation Scheme (DIAS) is your direct link to Medicare funding as an imaging services provider.  Providers that are planning to render services included within the Diagnostic Imaging Services of the Medicare Benefits Schedule will DIAS compliance (Department of Health 2020).

All practices must have a registered Location Specific Provider Number (LSPN) in order to be eligible accreditation under the scheme.  This is a unique identifier for sites that provide diagnostic imaging and radiation oncology services (Department of Health 2020).  The LSPN is submitted as part of each Medicare claim (Department of Health 2020).

Entry Level versus Full suite

It may be difficult for a new practice to meet the full suite of Standards, as records showing compliance may not be generated until the practice has been operating for a time.  Practices entering the Scheme may choose to be accredited against either the entry level Standards or the full suite of Standards.  Practices initially choosing to be accredited against the entry-level Standards have a period of two years to achieve accreditation against the full suite of Standards to retain their accreditation.  Once the full suite has been achieved, the practice must seek re-accreditation to the full suite of Standards at four yearly intervals to maintain their accreditation.
