DIAS is the Diagnostic Imaging Accreditation Scheme, and certification through this scheme is a regulatory requirement for any imaging service provider that wants to be eligible for Medicare funding. If you are planning to start a new practice or introduce services included within the Diagnostic Imaging Services of the Medicare Benefits Schedule, you will be required to meet DIAS compliance according to the regulations set out by the Department of Health in 2020.

Partial Accreditation vs. Full Accreditation
For practices that are already established, full accreditation is recommended. However, this is more challenging for new practices to achieve, as you will not have generated sufficient records to support compliance. For this reason, there is the option to achieve partial accreditation that can be later upgraded to full accreditation.
Practices initially choosing to be accredited against the entry-level standards have a period of two years to achieve accreditation against the full suite of standards to retain their accreditation.
Once the full accreditation has been achieved, it is important to note that the practice must seek re-accreditation to the full suite of standards on a 4-year cycle to maintain accreditation. This is to ensure that accreditation remains in line with the latest technologies and best practices.
